Year 10 pupil, Callum, reports on the recent Design Ventura competition victory.
On Wednesday 10th February, we left school at 4:45 and travelled by tube to the Design Museum.
When we got there, we were delighted to notice that all ten finalist designs were on general display on the river bank in a glass room for the public to see as they walked along the river bank.
On arrival, we were invited into the building and met the other contestants again; some had travelled from as far afield as Edinburgh and Newcastle to attend the awards evening. We then prepared to go into the hall to discuss our designs with invited guests and adjudicators.
After about an hour discussing our design with all interested people, they started the awards ceremony. We waited nervously for our name and were getting increasingly worried when it wasn’t called out.
Much to our excitement and relief, Finchley Catholic High School was announced as the overall winners. I was over the moon; it was unbelievable! We had beaten over 280 schools, a total of over 10,000 pupils. Our product, ‘Wheelys’ would be manufactured, produced and sold on the shelves of a real shop!
However, I wished that Mr. Parker could have been there to share the moment, as we couldn’t have done it without him. We, as a team, thank him for all his efforts in helping us and hope we repaid him by Winning the Design Ventura Award for 2015.
