Congratulations to year 10 pupil Savio Musekera who beat stiff competition to claim the £1000 prize in the second annual Mario Francescotti Business Awards.
The competition was established last year thanks to a generous donation by former pupil and successful business person, Mario Francesscotti. Pupils compete to present the best business idea and demonstrate a variety of transferable skills including communication, teamwork, organisation, leadership, creativity, problem-solving and adaptability.
Six finalists were shortlisted from approximately 35 entries, namely:
Louis Valerio 7C
Sean Morgan 10R
Dylan Went 9H
Alessio Giacometti 7B
Savio Musekura 10S
Lloyd Patrick Sheils Spur 8F
This year's winner was Savio for his innovative idea of 'SmartBalance', a performance enhancing aid designed to improve dynamic balance in amateur boxers aspiring to compete professionally. It provides greater monitoring of footwork during athletic training. Initially developed for boxers, it also has cross-discipline benefits and wider sporting applications e.g. injury rehabilitation.
The panel of four judges comprised Mario Francescotti himself, Sue Murphy (Head of Sixth Form), Sonny Corcoran (2015 winner) past pupil and business graduate, Max Brough.
