Time Allocation: Students will be allocated one session for 1 hour per week.

Course Content:

Students will take part in one of the following activities on a 9 week rotation:  Football, Rounders, Handball, Fitness, and Dodgeball. In addition, theory relating to how to keep fit and healthy will be covered as follows:

-Research into past Olympic Games with a focus on the medal tables and the reasons for success of various countries

-Investigation into the links between exercise, diet, work and rest and the relationship between dietary intake and performance

-Investigation into the effects of performance enhancing drugs on well-being and performance; the reasons why some performers may risk using them to enhance performance

Spring

-Analysis of Fitness Test Results

 

-Investigation into what constitutes a healthy, active lifestyle

-Investigation into the effects of smoking and alcohol on general health and physical activity

Formative Assessment:

Students will be regularly assessed in the form of fitness tests. These tests will happen twice a year to measure progress.

Why you will get out of following the PE: Health and Fitness course:

This course aims to improve the understanding of all students of how to maintain a healthy lifestyle without the pressure of formal assessment. It provides the opportunity for students of sporting abilities to enjoy sport and analyse the effects of an active life on their health and well-being.
