At Finchley Catholic High School we offer a wide range of musical activities, including Choir, Elite Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Stage Band, Rock Band, Brass Band and Theory Club.
The Performing Arts Department offers students plenty of opportunities to perform, with concerts and masses throughout the year: Year 7 Welcome Mass, Christmas Carol Concert, Opening Sixth Form Mass, GCSE Recital Evening, Finchley’s Musician of the Year, Presentation Evening, Old Folks’ Christmas Party, Easter Concert, Summer Soiree. We also put on a musical every year – last year we performed Grease, this year we are putting on Fame.
The Music Department also works very closely with the RE Department to provide music for masses within our busy liturgical calendar.
Pupils have 2 one hour lessons a week in KS3 (Years 7 and 8), where we follow a programme of study incorporating listening, composing, performing and music theory and history. We study the OCR syllabus at GCSE and AQA at A level. Composition uses the Garage Band programme.
Eight peripatetic staff teach the whole range of instruments, and pupils can be entered for music exams with the Associated Board, Trinity Guildhall and Rock School.
