The RE GCSE Specification was first assessed in June 2017. The GCSE (9–1) in Business is a linear qualification with 100% external assessment.

It consists of three examined components:

Catholic Christianity (50%)

  • This component is worth 96 marks, and the exam paper will consist of four out of six topics learnt.
  • Each section will follow the same format. They will have five questions in each section; these will be worth, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 12 marks.
  • 1 and 2 mark questions will test knowledge of key terminology and recall. 4 and 5 mark questions will require developed explanation of key ideas and concepts. 12 mark questions will require students to evaluate a statement, providing evidence from both religious and non-religious perspectives.

Judaism (25%)

  • This component is worth 48 marks, and the exam paper will consist of two topics: Jewish Beliefs and Teachings, and Jewish Practices.
  • Each section will follow the same format. They will have five questions in each section; these will be worth, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 12 marks.

Thematic Studies (25%)

  • This component is worth 48 marks, and the exam paper will consist of two themes: Religion, relationships and families, and Religion, human rights and social justice.
  • Each section will follow the same format. They will have five questions in each section; these will be worth, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 12 marks.
