The Learning Support Department is run by very experienced, supportive and well qualified staff to identify and support those pupils who may need additional help with their studies.
The Department works in partnership with subject specialists to ensure that students have the fullest possible access to the curriculum. In the main, learning support is provided through in-class support from a team of experienced Teaching Assistants during mainstream lessons. When additional, more specialist help is required, students may be withdrawn from timetabled lessons for individual support or small group work delivered by specialist teachers.
Parents are encouraged to be involved in all decision-making regarding their children and are invited to attend meetings and reviews where their son's progress will be discussed. Their contribution to these occasions is greatly valued and their concerns are noted and acted upon.
The guidance document below describes the provision that should be ordinarily available in state funded education settings in Barnet.
