Training Opportunities

Here at Finchley Catholic High School we offer a range of teacher training opportunities, which will meet the needs of all people trying to get into the profession.

We are successful partners in the Schools Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programmes, working as part of The Compton-Barnet Teaching School Alliance alongside the Institute of Education. Click here to be taken to The Compton School's teacher training pages where you will find information on how to apply.

The School Direct route is a salaried programme into teaching and training takes place on site here at Finchley Catholic. Up to 3 years experience is required before you can apply for the School Direct.

Alternatively, trainees can follow the SCITT Training route which is, again, entirely school centred providing classroom based, practical training and underpinned by a weekly educational studies programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

For more information on School Direct please click here.

For information on the different routes and the UCAS process please click here.

Moreover, our school has taken on numerous PGCE trainees from Kings, the IOE and Middlesex in recent years and we are keen to expand and take on more. Please contact us if you would like to work alongside us at Finchley Catholic High School.

Teaching open days

Our school has recently pioneered an open day for people interested in entering the teaching profession, those looking for a career change or some who were looking to re-enter the profession. The feedback was very positive.

“I am very grateful to you, the staff and students of FCHS for a productive Open Day yesterday. It has fuelled my excitement and enthusiasm for the teaching profession, and clarified some of the more confusing aspects.”

“The program was very well organised and extremely helpful. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your valuable guidance.”

“I just wanted to start by saying thank you for yesterday's open day and for granting me a place amongst the hopefuls! It was such a rich experience; so thorough, detailed and everything I could have wanted from it. The whole way home I was smiling thinking what the future may hold and what an exciting pathway I may be about to take.”

If you would like any advice on teacher training here at FCHS or to register an interest in attending a future open day please send an email, with your CV attached, to
