At Finchley Catholic, we are proud to offer a diverse range of teacher training opportunities tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of those seeking to embark on a fulfilling career in education.
We are successful partners in the Schools Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programmes, working as part of The Compton-Barnet Teaching School Alliance alongside the Institute of Education. Trainees can follow the SCITT Training route which is, again, entirely school centred providing classroom-based, practical training and underpinned by a weekly educational studies programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Alternatively, the School Direct route is a salaried programme into teaching and training takes place on site here at Finchley Catholic. Up to three years’ experience is required before you can apply for the School Direct.
Our school has also taken on numerous PGCE trainees from Kings, the IOE and Middlesex in recent years and we are keen to expand and take on more. Please contact us if you would like to work alongside us at Finchley Catholic High School.
We take great pride in hosting School Experience Days designed to provide valuable insights into the teaching profession. These events cater to a wide audience, including those considering a career change, individuals seeking to re-enter the profession, and aspiring educators. The feedback we have received from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the enriching experiences these open days offer:
“It gave me a true perspective of what teaching can be and how to navigate through it (and) having the chance to speak and listen to the 3 newly qualified teachers gave me more clarity.”
“I believe prospective teachers would find these kind of experiences helpful.”
“I truly enjoyed the visit. It was a valuable opportunity to observe the day-to-day operation of the school and gain a clearer understanding of its ethos and learning environment. I particularly appreciated the chance to speak with current ECTs and hear their reflections on the early years of their teaching journey.”
