Incredible Results

We are thrilled to share some exciting news about Finchley Catholic High School's incredible GCSE results and Progress 8 score.

Progress 8 is a 'value-added' measure that assesses how much a secondary school enhances a student's progress over five years. It compares a student's performance with that of their primary school peers and correlates it with their GCSE results to determine whether an individual's progress is above, below, or at the expected level. This score is calculated by comparing GCSE results with other students who had the same KS2 SATs scores, providing an accurate measure of progress from Year 6 to Year 11. Progress 8 considers a broad spectrum of subjects, including English, Maths, up to three subjects from the EBacc list (sciences, computer science, geography, history, languages) and the three highest scores from various other subjects. English and Maths are given double weighting to recognise their importance. Progress 8 is instrumental in measuring the effectiveness of secondary schools across England and this score creates a well-rounded and meaningful indicator of educational achievement. It ensures that schools remain committed to providing a comprehensive education and that students' progress is accurately evaluated, reflecting the shared goal of every parent and carer: to secure a high-quality education that equips their children for future success.

This school-wide Progress 8 score is used to rank and compare school performance and to create school league tables in the UK. Please see this link for this year’s tables for your information.

We are delighted to announce that our Progress 8 score for the academic year 2022-2023 is +1.17. Any score above +0.5 is categorised as "Well Above Average", and this statistic indicates that our students achieve, on average, more than one grade higher in each qualification compared to similar pupils nationally. It reflects the exceptional progress they have made during their time at our school.

In the London Borough of Barnet, Finchley Catholic High School ranks 2nd out of 54 schools for their progress score. It is also important to note that the school ranked 1st in Barnet is significantly smaller, with a pool of approximately 40 pupils, which makes our achievement even more remarkable.

Nationally, Finchley Catholic is ranked 28th out of 6951 schools, placing us in the top 0.4% of schools across the country. This showcases the exceptional quality of education that we provide to our students.

This outstanding Progress 8 score is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and our parents/carers. We remain committed to providing students with the best possible education and ensuring their progress – not just academically, but as well-rounded individuals. We are incredibly proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement with you.
